RØM er stolte over at præsentere LUSTER PIT - en soloudstilling af Linnéa Gad kurateret af Rebekka Elisabeth Anker-Møller.
I sine malerier, tryk og installationer omdanner Linnéa Gad billeder og materialer til genkendelige, men tvetydige landskaber. Hun benytter ofte billeder fra bøger, hun har læst, visuelle arkiver, hun har fundet, og ideer udviklet gennem sit eget skriftsprog til at skabe kompositioner, der ligger ud over det originale billedes subjektive former. På den måde formidler hun både historisk kontekst og personlige fortællinger. Hun leger med sammenblandingen af det syntetiske og det organiske ved at sætte elementer fundet i naturen, såsom mos, svampe og fyrretræ, sammen med masseproducerede industrielle materialer som styroskum. Gad er interesseret i det komplekse ved anerkendelsen af skønheden i billeder og materialer, der berører opbygningen og ødelæggelsen af vores civilisation.
LUSTER PIT henviser således til at finde uventet skønhed i mørket, i det ødelæggende eller i det ukendte. Det er ideen om dét, der glitrer, som til tider forfører os ind i mørket og selvdestruktionen. Titlen refererer også til et krater i forhold til, hvordan RØM og Grønttorvet er ved at blive omdannet til et skinnende nyt boligområde på bekostning af det, som allerede er der. Historiske ruiner i moderne foranderlighed.
Linnéa Gads præsentation på RØM er et poetisk eksperiment som følge af en intuitiv stedsspecifik praksis. Udstillingen består af både gulv- og vægbaserede værker, hvor Gad udnytter rummets detaljer til fulde. I gulvets sprække vokser eksempelvis en have af grønt, mens øer af mos møder kystlinjen af en bølget gulvkant, der tidligere har været skjult af hylder. Gad arbejder med rumlighed og det tredimensionelle på en måde, hvor det fysiske aspekt i værket træder frem og bliver skulpturelt selv, når det gælder bearbejdningen af maleriets overflade. Hun arbejder konsekvent i flere lag og tidsligheder både konkret som mentalt. Bevægelsen i hendes proces og resultatet af udstillingen kan sammenlignes med, hvordan vegetation, lige så langsomt men sikkert, ville overtage et rum.
Linnéa Gad (f. 1990) er en svensk kunstner, som bor og arbejder i Stockholm. Hun har en bachelorgrad fra Parsons School of Design, The New School, New York, som en JP Morgan Chase Scholar fra 2009 til 2013. Hun har siden haft en soloudstilling Currently Remodelling på SBG31 i Stockholm (2016) og Soliloquy på 6BASE in New York (2017). Gad har desuden deltaget i en række internationale gruppeudstillinger og er modtager af flere legater og residencies. Senere i foråret vil New Release Gallery i New York være rammen for endnu en udstilling af Gads arbejde. I forbindelse med Luster Pit på RØM har hun haft et ophold på Statens Værksteder for Kunst.

RØM is pleased to present LUSTER PIT - a solo exhibition by Swedish artist Linnéa Gad curated by Rebekka Elisabeth Anker-Møller.
In her paintings, prints, and installations, Linnéa Gad transform images and materials to recognisable yet ambiguous landscapes. She sources imagery from books she has read, visual archives she has found, and ideas developed through her own writing to create compositions that are beyond the original image’s subjective forms. In this way she convey both historical context and personal narratives. She plays with the blend of the synthetic and the organic often pairing elements found in nature with mass-produced industrial materials, such as moss and sponges, pine clippings and foam. Gad is interested in the complexity of recognizing beauty in images and materials that relate to the construction and destruction of our civilisation.
In this way LUSTER PIT refers to finding unexpected beauty in the dark, in the devastating or in the unknown. It is the idea of the glimmer of things, which at times seduces us to seek against darkness and self-destruction. The title also refers to a crater in relation to how RØM and Grønttorvet are transforming into a shiny new residential area at the expense of what’s already there. Historic ruins in a modern change.
Linnéa Gads presentation at RØM is a poetic experiment as a result of an intuitive site-specific practice. The exhibition consists of both floor and wall-based works, where Gad takes full advantage of the room’s details. In the crack of the floor grows a green garden while islands of moss meets the shoreline of a wavy floor edge previously hidden by shelves. Gad works with spatiality and the three-dimensional in a way where the physical aspect of the work emerges and becomes sculptural, even when it comes to the processing of the painting’s surface. She works consistently in multiple layers and temporalities both specifically as mentally. The movement in her process and the result of the exhibition is comparable to how vegetation, just as slowly but surely, would take over a space.
Linnéa Gad (b. 1990) is a Swedish artist living and working in Stockholm. She received her B.F.A. from Parsons School of Design, The New School, New York as a JP Morgan Chase Scholar from 2009 through 2013. She has since had a show Currently Remodelling at SBG31 in Stockholm (2016) and Soliloquy at 6BASE in New York (2017). Gad has in addition participated in a number of international group exhibitions and has been the recipient of various residencies’ and programs in New York. Later this spring New Release Gallery in New York will host a solo exhibition of Gad’s work. In connection with Luster Pit at RØM she has had a stay at Statens Værksteder for Kunst.
